Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh): In all, 18 people including 12 women and six children were injured after a tractor-trolley in which they were travelling overturned between Kajarda and Rawatpura villages in district’s Manasa tehsil on Friday evening.
The condition of five persons is said to be critical who have been admitted in Neemuch district hospital. Manasa sub divisional magistrate Manish Kumar Jain said villagers from Parotpipalya had gone to Mataji's temple near Kanjarda in a tractor-trolley. While they were returning, the vehicle overturned.
Manasa police registered case against driver Ram Narayan Bhil, a resident of Parotpipliya village under Section 279 (Rash driving), 337 (causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently) of Indian Penal Code on complaint of Babulal Bhil, a resident of same village.
This is not the first time than the area has witnessed accident in which an overloaded tractor- trolley overturned. In the past, several people lost their lives or became handicapped due to accidents involving tractor-trolley.
SDM Jain said public transport is not allowed in tractor-trolleys. He said that the concerned department has been directed that if tractor-trolleys are used for public transport, strict action should be taken.
Tractor is a vehicle, which is not meant for carrying passengers. Deceased or injured using the tractor as a mode of transport cannot claim any relief or compensation from the insurer under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
