Indore :  Lok Ayukta police on Friday caught a Naib Tehsildar and a clerk accepting bribe of Rs 10000 for transferring a farm land in a farmer’s name.

Jitendra Singh of village Bardari (Simrol) had applied for transferring the land purchased by him in 1989 in his name, for which Naib Tehsildar Pradeep Kaurab demanded a bribe.

Kaurab allegedly threatened the farmer that he would put his application for land transfer in disputed cases, if he was not paid.

Singh had purchased the land from Babulal in 1989 but he did not get it registered immediately.

He filed an application for transfer of the land in his name in 2010 to which Babulal objected saying that the land belonged to him.

Tehsildar passed order in favour of Jitendra Singh. The order was challenged by Babulal before SDM who forwarded the case to additional commissioner. The additional commissioner upheld the order of tehsildar and directed him to transfer the land in the name of Jitendra Singh.

When Jitendra Singh approached Kaurab for transfer of land he kept demand of Rs 10000. As Singh agreed to pay, the Naib Tehsildar called him with the amount to his office on Friday.

The farmer approached Lok Ayukta police and lodged a complaint against the corrupt official.

Moved by the complaint, Lok Ayukta sleuths laid a trap to nab the corrupt official. They sent Jitendra Singh with the demand amount to Kaurab who asked him to hand over the amount to Clerk Kanhiya Chauhan. As the clerk accepted the amount, Lok Ayukta sleuths standing nearby in civil dress nabbed him.

The seized the amount and booked Chauhan and Kaurab under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
