MYH lab technicians’ strike leaves patients in trouble

Calls off strike after assurance of strengthening staff in a month

Indore: A large number of patients at the MY Hospital had to face trouble in getting done various medical examinations due to the strike of lab technicians on Monday. The lab technicians of the hospital went on strike on Monday and also staged demonstration at the main entrance of the hospital shouted slogans against the Medical College administration.

The technicians were demanding appointment of more staffs in the labs. However, the strike was called off following an assurance from the college and hospital administration. District vice president of Medical Lab Technician Association, Madhya Pradesh, Gopal Bahad said they staged the demonstration to press for their demands. “We are working under pressure from a long time due to acute shortage of the staff.

We had warned the college administration 15 days ago about the strike but they didn’t take any action,” Bahad said.
He further alleged that the college administration had posted eight lab technicians as clerk in different departments of the hospital and in the medical college. “We have also demanded the college administration to send back the employees for their actual work so that they would share the burden with us,” Bahad added.

No recruitments since 2012

Bahad further said that the Medical College administration published an advertisement for the recruitment of lab technicians and other posts in 2012 but no recruitments were made. “The college administration had issued the advertisement but not action was taken yet. They have even called the candidates for interview,” he added. 3He further said that they will go on strike if the staff strength is not raised in a month.
