Indore : Members of the Muslim community staged a demonstration at Regal Trisection, on Tuesday afternoon, protesting objectionable comments made against their religious head.
They gathered at their place of worship in Gwaltoli and then marched to Regal Trisection in groups. Young members of the community tried to block the busy roads, damaged a car and even beat up an auto-rickshaw driver and a motorcyclist.
The demo lasted for an hour and when the situation began to spiral out of control following stone-pelting at a garment showroom, heavy police force was summoned to restore order.
The demonstration was staged following objectionable remarks made by Kamlesh Tiwari of the Hindu Mahasabha in Lucknow. The demonstrators shouted slogan against Tiwari and demanded action against him.
The demonstration took an ugly turn when younger members could not suppress their anger and sought to block roads, damaged car and thrashed auto-rickshaw driver and motorcycle borne rider.
Force of 12 police stations deployed
It is interesting to note that though the police had prior information about the demonstration, no steps were taken or force was deployed to prevent ugly incidents.
When the situation turned ugly, police from 12 police stations was deployed to restore order. SP OP Tripathi, CSP Bittu Sehgal and other senior police officers reached the spot and defused the situation.
Idris Mansoori, President, Madhya Pradesh Muslim Morcha, said in a press release that strict action should be taken against those making objectionable comments.
Muneer Ahmad Khan of Anjuman Islahul Muslemeen echoed the similar sentiment and condemned the comments. Akbar Ahmed of Bharatiya Muslim Vichar Manch said that businessmen downed shutters to protest the comments and a memorandum was handed over to city religious leaders. Nizamuddin Guddu, Chairman of Minority Committee, Indore City Congress also condemned the objectionable comments.
