Indore : Though it has adopted computer-based exam pattern on the lines of Common Admission Test (CAT), the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission has not implemented a major component of CAT that is question bank system for its exams.

“If we adopted question bank system, it would have taken at least four years for us to move from paper-pencil format to computer-based one. So we, as of now, have dropped the idea of question bank,” MPPSC Secretary Manohar Dubey said.

It is to be noted that the MPPSC is going to conduct all its exams, barring civil service exams, in computer-based mode from October 10 onwards.

Agriculture Service Commission exam, which is scheduled on October 10, would be the first exam to be held in computer-based mode.

Dubey said that all the candidates would get the same paper for the exam.

The MPPSC shelved the idea of preparing a question bank as it would also have to go for normalizing process to deal with difficulty level of the exam which would have invited legal tangles.

Plus, for the exams, wherein vacancies are less, going for question bank system would have proved a costlier affair.

Dubey also signaled that the MPPSC would not be making civil service exam a computer-based test in near future.

“For making an as exam as big as civil service exam, a huge infrastructure is required. Over 4 lakh candidates apply for civil service preliminary exam. Arranging four lakh computers for them is an impossible task as of now,” he said.
