Indore : Much to the disappointment of candidates of Madhya Pradesh, the only criteria for them to take assistant professor’s exam scheduled to be held this year will be National Eligibility Test (NET).
Another option of State Level Eligibility Test is also open yet closed to them.
In past 10 years, the state government did not hold SLET, so there are no SLET qualifiers in the state at least for assistant professor’s exam whose advertisement is likely to be announced by Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) shortly.
SLET of a state plays an important role in selection of teachers at government colleges of that state.
Candidates of a particular state get advantage due to SELT over candidates from other states whenever the selection process of teaching posts in their state is held.
But to the disappointment of candidates of Madhya Pradesh, the state government has not conducted SLET for past 10 years.
This will put candidates of Madhya Pradesh at disadvantage when MPPSC will shortly initiate process to fill a total of 2395 posts of assistant professor lying vacant at government colleges in the state.
As per Supreme Court ruling, only national eligibility test (NET) and SLET qualifiers are eligible for appointment on assistant professor’s post.
As SLET has not been conducted since 2005 in the state, thousands of candidates, who could have become eligible for the exams of assistant professor due to SELT, will have to bit the dust.
For them the only eligibility will be NET. The same will be the eligibility criteria for other state students.
The Department of Higher Education has asked the MPPSC to fill vacant seats in government colleges in the state. We have some queries on eligibility criteria. Once the queries are addressed, we will invite application for assistant professor’s exam,” MPPSC secretary Manohar Dubey said.
