MP Assembly Elections 2018: What is your gotra? Patra to Rahul Gandhi; BJP for Tharoor ouster

Indore: In a pincer attack on Rahul Gandhi, who is making frequent visits to temples in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, the BJP here on Monday sought to know gotra (clan) of Congress president’s as he wears janeu (sacred thread). “To mislead the Hindus, Rahul Gandhi sports a janeu over his shirt. We demand from the ‘janeudhari’ Rahul Gandhi to clarify which ‘gotra’ does he belong to,” BJP spokesman Sambit Patra told reporters here on Monday.

He said people call Rahul Gandhi a “Vatican gotra ka Brahmin” but there are no such Brahmins in the country. The Congress president’s mother Sonia Gandhi, who is also chairperson of United Progressive Alliance (UPA), is an Italian by birth.

The saffron party’s attack on the Congress president came as he headed towards Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain which is located in politically significant Malwa-Nimar region of MP. Patra said after its humiliating defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, a committee headed by former Union minister A K Antony had said the Congress losing ground because of its projected image of a ‘party of Muslims’.

“After the Antony committee’s report, Rahul Gandhi is exhibiting fancy dress Hinduism continuously to fool people,” he added. Patra said for over 70 years since Independence, the Congress has been playing ‘bitter’ politics in the name of secularism. “They have been treating Hindus as second-grade citizens,” he said.

The BJP also demanded action against senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor for his “scorpion” remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tharoor stoked a controversy on Sunday, claiming that an unnamed RSS leader had compared the prime minister to “a scorpion sitting on a Shivling” and termed it as an extraordinarily striking metaphor.

“The objectionable statement of Tharoor, who is very close to Rahul Gandhi, has disrespected not only the holy deity of Lord Mahadev, worshipped by crores of Hindus, but also the Prime Minister Modi. “In such a situation, how will Gandhi offer prayers at the Mahakal temple,” Patra said. Alleging that Congress leaders were continuously disrespecting the Hindus by making objectionable statements, the BJP leader demanded that Gandhi should apologise for Tharoor’s remarks and expel him from the party.

Rafale means ‘Rahul fails’
Taking a dig at the controversy over Rafale jet deal, Patra said Rafale means “Rahul fails”. “Rahul Gandhi is making rounds of CVC, CBI and other agencies claiming irregularity in Rafale deal. If he has proof he should move court like we did in 2G and Coalgate scams,” he said adding the fact is he does have any proof and making futile attempt to malign image of PM. He said from 2004-2014, Congress led UPA government was in power at the Centre. There were 44 squadrons at their time which were left to 34. Why Gandhi let this happen?

Public to defame those defaming Modi
Replying to a question regarding why Modi is not filing defamation case against Gandhi for calling him a thief, Patra said Modi does not file any defamation case. “Public defame those attempts to defame Modi,” he said citing derogatory remarks against Modi during general elections in 2014, UP elections, Gujarat elections and Karnataka elections.

BJP to win 200+ seats in MP
Patra claimed that the Shivraj Government would retain power in the state. “We will win at least 200 seats in the state,” he said. To a query, he stated that no Congress senior leader including Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijay Singh is in Madhya Pradesh. They all are in New Delhi.

Only Shivraj Singh Chouhan is on ground. On increasing rape incidents in MP, Patra said that rape is a heinous crime and Modi and Chouhan both have taken steps to check it. While Modi has brought a law stipulating death penalty for rapists, Chouhan setup fast track courts for rapes cases.
