Indore : Finally Moti, a city zoo elephant, was released in the new enclosure on Monday morning. However, the shifting wasn’t an easy task for the zoo officials as it got violent even after it was tranquilized.

The animal also injured a mahout and also hurt itself. Sources said Moti received injuries in its rear right leg as it was tied and pulled with ropes.

“At last, Moti was shifted well. Though there were a few problems in the process of shifting as it went violent. But later Moti calmed down and we didn’t face any problem in shifting it,” said Dr Uttam Yadav, In-charge of Kamla Nehru Prani Sanghralaya (City Zoo).

Yadav added: “We would observe its behavioral changes for few days and later it would be freed. When quizzed about Champa’s behaviour, he said, the cow elephant is fine and there aren’t any major behavioural changes so far. However, sources said that the zoo authorities would now need to be more careful with Moti as when it was chained, it got aggressive.

Sources said that the elephant would roam free after 33 years. Both Champa and Moti were long chained in the zoo premise due to their aggressive nature.
