More than 200 encroachments removed from Banganga road

• Nearly one km road freed from encroachments• Drive to continue today

Indore: In a major drive against encroachments, a joint team of district administration, Indore Municipal Corporation ( IMC), MPRDC and police removed more than 200 encroachments from Banganga road on Thursday. Some of the encroachments razed were of Congress leaders and their relatives.

The drive will continue on Friday and encroachments by bigwig Vishnu Prasad Shukla may come under action.Showing the firm determination against encroachments, the team led by SDO Dr Varadmurthi Mishra started the drive from Banganga ROB end on Thursday morning.

The action on Thursday cleared encroachments up to the residence of veteran BJP leader Vishnu Prasad Shukla. Collector Akash Tripathi told Free Press that out of the 2.20 km long road from Marimata square to Banganga ROB, half of the stretch has been made free from encroachments.

More than 200 encroachments have been removed in Thursday’s action, sources said. The residents had encroached more than 13 feet on the Nazul land and had constructed rooms, erected tin shades and platforms. The encroachments are being demolished to build a fourlane road by the MPRDC. The team razed encroachments without any major resistance of the victims and local leaders.

At some places few women tried to oppose the drive and demanded some time to remove the encroachments by themselves. At the starting point one Kusum Bai tried to create a scene by accusing the team of demolishing her construction more than the limit. Similarly, a painter known as a ‘ God’ has also tried to stop the action.

At one house a lady threatened to jump from first floor, if her house is covered in the action. She demanded more time to remove the encroachment.But the team went on with its action.

Action under senior Admn officials’ supervision

The drive was conducted under the supervision of collector Akash Tripathi, SDO Dr Varadmurthi Mishra, SDM Rajneesh Kasera and DK Nagendra.

IMC deputy commissioner MPS Arora and Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Singh Chouhan was leading the IMC team. Officers of MP Road Development Corporation were also part of the action team.

Heavy police force deployed

In view of possible opposition from the women, the police administration had deployed more than 40 women constables equipped with helmet, body guards and shields. Similarly, more than 80 men police personnel were also supporting the operation. CSP Ajay Jain and Banganga TI ogesh Singh Tomar were leading the police force.

Encroachments of bigwigs razed

The encroachments of – Con gress leader Bante adav were also removed. Sur- pris ingly, no political leaders both the parties came forward protesting the drive, except Deepu adav. Joint drive by admn, IMC and other agencies

Shukla encroachments to be razed today

The joint team will continue its drive on Friday morning. According to IMC officers, 1.6 feet iron railings erected by veteran BJP leader Vishnu Prasad Shukla will be removed in Friday’s action. The demolition team will complete its action on Friday, sources said.

Worship places spared

During the drive the team did not touch almost 25 places of worship. Sources said they will be shifted after making alternate places for it. Hence, there won’t be any dispute regarding Lord Parshuram idol on Friday. The two feet platform of the idol is also coming in the ambit of the encroachment.
