More city students finding place in labs of RRCAT

Indore : More and more students from science and engineering streams in the city are making it to Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Centre (RRCAT) and utilizing its world-class infrastructure to hone their skills.

This year, as many as 47 students out of 94 selected from across the country for project work at RRCAT are from Indore. Of these 94 students, 80 are placed in the labs of the RRCAT via PPC while the rest 15 are placed through “Advanced Orientation Course on Accelerators, Lasers and Related Science and Technologies (OCAL)”.

In the list of 80 students placed at RRCAT labs via PPC, 44 students are from Indore. Similarly, of the 16 students who are selected for project work via OCAL, three are from Indore.

Of the students selected from Indore, 26 students are from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), 20 from Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science and one from Government Holkar Science College.

Apart from Indore, one candidate has been selected from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, and others from states including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu.

RRCAT offers opportunities to the students pursuing degree in science and engineering from recognised institutions in the country for carrying out project work towards partial fulfilment of their degree. Presently projects are offered to students pursuing the following degrees in MPhil, MSc, ME and MTech.

This scheme has no prescribed training programme/ curriculum. Each selected student has to carry out the project individually under the guidance of a scientist/engineer of RRCAT, on all working days.

Project duration is from minimum six months up to twelve months.

To apply for the project work from RRCAT, the student needs to send his/her application in the prescribed form. Application for the project work must be accompanied with the certificate of bonafide student issued only by principal/ head of the institute.

Selection criteria are the academic profile of the student and availability of suitable project guide in the area of interest of the student. Period for the winter and summer projects will be from December 10 to June 9 and June 10 to December 9 respectively in the calendar year. Last dates for receiving applications for winter and summer projects are October 1 and April 1 respectively in every calendar year.
