Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Patalpani waterfall on Wednesday. However, she got stuck in a tree and was rescued by police.

It took one hour for police to rescue the woman identified as Kirti Gupta, a resident of Mhow. The woman has received severe injuries on her legs and head. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

Patalpani waterfall is one of the known tourist spots, situated 36 kilometres from Indore.

According to police, the woman works as a clerk with State Bank of India (SBI) in Mumbai. While the woman's husband Ajeet Gupta, who also works with SBI, lives in Mumbai, she has been staying with her parents in Mhow because of lockdown. Police sources said that the woman reached the spot in afternoon and jumped into the waterfall. The onlookers informed the police.

IN-charge of Badgonda police station, Ajeet Singh said exact reason that drove her to take the extreme step is yet to be established. “We are yet to record her statements. Family members are also clueless,” he told journalists.
