Indore: To support their counterparts protesting across the nation against the new orders of the Medical Council of India ( MCI) to increase the time of MBBS curriculum from existing 5.5 years to 6.5 years, the MBBS students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College staged demonstration at college campus on Thursday.
The students had also taken out a rally in the campus and shouted slogans against MCI. It is to be noted that MCI has increased the one year internship of the MBBS students and also make the one year internship at rural areas compulsory before PG entrance due to which the total MBBS and PG course of medicos will turn to 10.5 years.
“ We are not against rural postings, but we want the one- year rural internship to be included as a part of our curriculum either during the MBBS course or at the post- graduate stage,” student of MBBS III year, Amber Mittal said. About 200 under- graduate students participated in the protest and appealed to the PG students and to the students of private medical colleges to join them. Amber further said that they will decide their further strategy after talking to their counterparts protesting in Delhi.
