Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh): National Farmers Labour Federation district president Mahesh Vyas Ladusa has highlighted the problems of farmers in a letter sent to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
He said farmers are running from pillar to post to get good quality seeds of soyabean as sub standard seeds are available in market. In the letter, Ladusa also said that the officials of agriculture department are of no help.
“Farmers are forced to buy sub standard seeds from the market at Rs 10,000 per quintal. Still, there is no guarantee that the seeds will germinate as in 2020, the soyabean crop was infected by virus, about which the traders were unaware and they hoarded the seeds to earn profits and now the same seeds are being sold to farmers indiscriminately. But department officials are not bothered about the situation,” Ladusa added.
He also demanded that the amount of insurance of 2020 kharif soybean crops should also be deposited in the account of farmers so that they get financial relief during the pandemic.
