Indore : After the inception of monsoon, the number of malaria cases in the division touched 8000 mark till July 20. Several malaria cases were seen in June and July and the figure may increase in next two months. Taking the matter seriously, the District Health Department has raised an alarm for the residents and also constituted special team to monitor the affected areas.
According to Joint Director, Health Dr Sharad Pandit, there is sudden spurt in malaria cases in last two months and it is believed that the number would go up.
“World Health Organisation (WHO) had alerted us in February last about such attack after which we started preparations for the same. Last year, total number of malaria cases recorded was 18,000 in the division and the current figure of 8000 is alarming,” Dr Pandit said.
He said Jhabia district is the most affected in the division and most affected area in Indore is Rajendra Nagar. The department has issued alert to 33 Government hospitals and also constituted 6 teams of doctors to monitor the cases round the clock.
“Along with constituting a team for 24 hrs vigilance, we have also constituted a three-member team to monitoring conditions of 85 wards. We didn’t find any cases of dengue yet but we are preparing for every situation,” the Joint Director said.
