Madhya Pradesh: Soybean seeds meant for farmers being sold to Maharashtra, other states

Alot: Alot block Congress committee submitted a memorandum to Alot sub-divisional magistrate Rajesh Shukla addressed to Ratlam collector demanding that seeds to the farmers be provided in time.

Alot MLA Manoj Chawla has also written a letter to the collector and discussed for speedy redressal of the demand.

It is high time for sowing and the farmers are facing hardships in buying soybean seeds.

Agriculture department has entrusted 102 cooperative institutions, seed production societies, Kribhco and Seed Corporation to supply 6,351 quintals of seeds in Ratlam district.

However, till date only 3,600 quintal seeds have been made available by the societies.

Farmers allege that they are not getting seeds from the said institutions, but thousands of quintals of seeds meant for the farmers of Ratlam are being sold to Maharashtra and other states at higher prices in connivance with the agriculture department.

Had the government had paid attention on time, then this problem would not have happened.

The grant of 3,400 quintal soybean seed given by the state government on grant in the district last year, about Rs 68 lakh, has not been provided yet.

At present, super phosphate fertiliser is being given to the farmers by cooperative institutions at the rate of Rs 331 per bag, whereas in the market the same fertilizer is being available in the open market for Rs 290, in this way farmers are being charged Rs 41 per bag.

The 10 per cent subsidy given on fertilisers by the state government, has been stopped.

Ramlal Dhakad Block Congress President Alot, Tamar Singh Parihar MLA representative Mandi Committee and others were present while presenting the memorandum.
