Ratlam: Western Railway Majdoor Sangh (WRMS) has demanded from Union Government to unfreeze Dearness Allowance and Dearness relief (DA/DR) the payment of which is held up since January 20.

WRMS demanded that the three installments of DA/DR be released immediately as the dissent is simmering among employees and pensioners over the freezing of the DA/DR since January 20.

In a statement issued today here, WRMS president Sharif Khan Pathan and RATLAM RAIL DIVISION WRMS secretary B K Garg said that National Federation Railwaymen (NFIR) general secretary M Raghavaiah has on Thursday written to the Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and conveyed the unbearable financial hardships being faced by employees and pensioners due to unprecedented price rise of all commodities and demanded immediate restoration and release of due DA/ DR.

WRMS leaders said that employees and pensioners were extremely agitated over inaction on the issue of DA/DR on the part of the Union government so far. They reminded the ministry that during the Covid-19 outbreak railway employees contributed immensely to handle the adverse situation by operating goods train and running oxygen special trains and many of employees lost their lives but the freezing of DA /DR since last 18 months has caused them frustration and agony.

They stated that legitimate demands of unfreezing the DA/DR and releasing due installments must be accepted immediately by Union Government.
