Madhya Pradesh: Notices issued to 1,403 beneficiaries receiving funds under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Burhanpur: Burhanpur municipal corporation has issued notices to 1,403 beneficiaries who have received fund under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), but yet to start the construction of houses.

Corporationís planning department has approved 17,755 applications under the PMAY, out of which 13,227 have received funds.

A total of 775 among the 4,705 applicants whose first DPR was approved and 628 out of 2188 beneficiaries whose second DPR was approvedófailed to start the work despite getting first installment. Considering Rs 1lakh sanction to each beneficiary, work of Rs 14.03 crore is stuck under the PMAY scheme.

Rampant misuse

Corporation officer on condition of anonymity said that misuse of PMAY fund is rampant. A person bought an auto-rickshaw from the PMAY funds, he said. Now corporation has no option, but to serve recovery notices to such beneficiaries, he added.

250 beneficiaries await installment

As many as 250 beneficiaries from Burhanpur are yet to get second installment for the construction work and as a result of that, their houses are lying incomplete. The amount has not been released by the government yet.

Agitation on cards

Shantanu Patidar of Aam Aadmi Party said that the beneficiaries of the housing scheme are planning an agitation. In a month, the documents of such beneficiaries will be collected whose installments are due even though their name is in the list of beneficiaries.

When contacted SK Singh, corporation commissioner, Burhanpur said that notices has been issued to those who yet to start construction even after getting installment.
