Madhya Pradesh: Leopard preys 8-year-old boy in the Sardarpur Forest Department area

Sardarpur: 8-year-old boy fell prey to a leopard in the Sardarpur Forest Department area. In the forest area number 116 in forest village Bawdikhodra, the boy was sleeping with his family outside his house when the leopard attacked him. This is the fourth major incident of death due to leopard attack in this area in one and a half years.

SDO of Sardarpur Forest Department, Santosh Ranchhod, while discussing with the Free Press, told that on Wednesday midnight, Raj, 8, was sleeping outside his home with his family members when a leopard took it to the ditch carrying him in his mouth. When the family woke up in the morning, they started searching for Raj. The body of the child Raj was found in a mutilated state in the forest. As soon as it was reported to the police department, the forest department reached the spot. The post-mortem was done at Amjhera Hospital and after the post-mortem, the dead body was handed over to the family members. An immediate financial assistance of Rs 5 thousand was given to the family members for the last rites. The remaining amount of Rs 4 lakhs will be given to the family after the approval by the department.

It is noteworthy that this is the fourth major incident of child death due to leopard attack in one and a half years. SDO Santosh Ranchod of the Forest Department said, “The rescue team of the Forest Department is reaching the forest area with a cage and efforts are being made to catch the leopard soon.” People living in the same forest area are being made aware that they should neither sleep outside nor go to the forest at night. The death of innocent children due to continuous leopard attacks, there is an atmosphere of fear and panic among the people living in the forest area.
