Madhya Pradesh: Khargone dist sees 71.37% voting by 5 pm

Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): Voting for the second and final phase of urban body elections in Khargone district was held on a peaceful note on Wednesday amid tight security. Elaborate security arrangements were made for polling in six urban local bodies of the district.

Till 5 pm, 1,42,692 voters out of total 1,99,919 voters in six urban bodies of the district cast their vote and the voting percentage stood around 71.37 per cent.

While the citizens of the city stepped out to exercise their votes in their respective areas, district administration and police carried out a flag march to take stock of more than half of the polling stations. Khargone collector Kumar Purushottam and SP Dharamvir Singh Yadav led the fag march.

District collector office informed that voting in all polling stations got underway at 7 am. Heavy security was deployed to ensure that maximum number of eligible voters step out to exercise their constitutional rights without any fear.

According to the information received from the local election office, a total of 122 polling stations have been set up for the purpose across 33 wards of Khargone. Out of which, 60 centres were identified as sensitive while 62 are general polling booths.

In addition, polling was held in 18 wards of Barwaha, 18 wards of Sanawad, 15 wards of Kasrawad, 15 wards of Karhi and 15 wards of Bistan. In the last phase, a total of 1,99,919 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise at 262 polling booths.

Rain fails to dampen voters' enthusiasm

Long queues were not seen anywhere and voters kept coming to the polling stations in a steady stream, and the polling parties ensured that the whole process was carried out in a smooth and peaceful manner. The polling percentage, which comes every two hours, showed that even the rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the voters.

Kasrawad records highest voting

Kasrawad Municipal Council with total 84.57 per cent voting, stood first in terms of highest voting in the district. Total 14,651 voters, including 7,426 males and 7,225 females cast their vote. Followed by this, Bistan municipal council with 82.30 per cent voting stood second. In Karhi Padlia Khurd, voting percentage stood around 81.25 per cent, in Barwah 73.10 per cent, in Sanawad 70.73 per cent and in Khargone 66.76 per cent.
