Indore: The deadlock over removal of encroachments, obstructing the construction of feeder road from Narayan Kothi to Malawa Mill Square, is finally lifted and residents and shop owners have begun to demolish parts of structures on their own. The feeder road was proposed in the Indore Master Plan. The cement concrete road was envisaged to be 80 feet wide. As on date one side of the road is complete while other side is incomplete. Work stopped on the road due to obstructions on one side of the road.

Pancham Ki Fail and Goma Ki Fail are two principal slums opposite Neel Kamal Talkies. Both the areas fall under Assembly segment 5 and residents of these two slums constitute a huge vote bank. The area MLA and Minister for Health Mahendra Hardia threw his weight behind the residents.

The removal gang of IMC had made efforts to remove the obstructions but each time had to return following stiff opposition from people and also due to intervention of the minister. Both the Congress and the BJP have questioned the wisdom of keeping the road 80 feet wide from time- to- time. Due to the width of the road more than 80 structures are now considered obstruction to the construction of feeder road.

Finally, the reasoning that it is more beneficial if structures are removed by the owners themselves rather than by the IMC seems to have worked and people have begun to demolish their structures themselves.
