Lion cubs bring record 13,000 visitors to City zoo

Indore : Large number of people visited Kamla Nehru Prani Sanghralaya (City Zoo) to take a glimpse of new born lion cubs but they returned disappointed as the cubs are kept away from public view.

Senior zoo officials said about 13,000 visited the city zoo on Sunday. In addition, a large number of people were seen near the lion enclosure but couldn’t do so.

“about 13,000 reached the city zoo on Sunday. The zoo also collected Rs 1.30 lakh as revenue,” in-charge at City Zoo Dr Uttam Yadav.

Yadav added that the cubs were kept away from the visitors in view of security measure. The health condition of the cubs is fine. In addition, the zoo staffers would wait for the cubs to step out of the enclosure on their own, ensuring safety of cubs. He further said five cubs are born to Akash and Megha.

Hefty fine collected too

A hefty penalty of Rs1400 was also recovered from 8 visitors. The penalty is imposed under Section 38J (Prohibition of teasing, etc., in a zoo) of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The zoo officials said that the visitors who threw stones, paper balls and food items to the animals to attract them were being fined. However the motive behind this campaign is to make the general public aware of basic behavior while visiting the zoo premise. The authorities said people who were found making nuances even after warnings were fined.
