Without doing work, funds transferred in labourers’ accounts

Bhikangaon:  The labourers of Bhikangaon demanded the government to provide them work; in respect to which the government produced a scheme and allotted the work to them. Money related to the scheme was also transferred in the respective Panchayats’ accounts and the wages were deposited in the accounts of the labourers. However, neither the labourers went for the work nor the work commenced.

When questioned, the labourers said that they never asked for work and had no clue about the wages being deposited in their accounts. On the other hand, the Kanjhar Panchayat of the Bhikangaon block is tired of looking for labourers for the road-construction scheme.

For the purpose of giving employment to the laborers, a 49 acre of farm road had been sanctioned for construction, but couldn’t be started due to the unavailability of labourers. These roads bear an expenditure of Rs 5, 45, 41, 327. Respective of the construction work, many Panchayats have shown the wages deposits and even online expenses during the last week of February and early March.

As per the complaint by the deputy Sarpanch Rai Singh Rathor to the CEO of district Panchayat, laborers namely Rajaram Bhikaji, Mathuralal Parmanand, Murar Nathu and Udaysingh Babu did not work on the roads from Kanjhar to Subhanfalya and Kanjhar to Mehendibaadi, yet the wages had been deposited in their accounts.

Rathor questioned the working of Sarpanch and all the concerned officers. He further revealed that labor Kashiram works as a guard outside the BSNL tower whereas his wife is a cook in a local hostel. Rathor also demanded an immediate investigation and a strict action against the guilty. It was also noticed that in the Khudgaon and Rampura Panchayats, JCB machines were being used in place of laborers. After the investigation of the above bogus issue, all other Panchayats are now alert leading to the stagnation of almost a five crore scheme. The villagers complain that some people do not let the development work progress.

‘The issue is quite serious. It shall be investigated and the guilty shall be punished severely.’BS Muvel, CEO, District Panchayat, Bhikangaon.
