Indore : One of the accused in the RTI activist Shehla Masood case, Irfan who recently wished to become government witness recorded his statements behind closed doors, on Thursday.

Only the judge and he were present during the recording of statement.

For nearly one-and-a-half-hour, the proceedings continued. His statement was sealed in an envelope, which is likely to be opened before CBI judge Subhra Singh, who initially heard the case.

It is to be noted that Irfan gave in writing to the court on June 21 that he wanted to become government witness and confess to the crime.

After June 21 hearing, Saba Farooqui’s lawyer had said that Irfan had previously recorded his statement and changing statement will mean that he had mislead the court. “Irfan would be booked for newer sections if he amended his previous statements,” he had added.

In the following hearing, Irfan sent a letter to the court claiming that he was not keeping well.

On Thursday, he turned up before the court and on his request, in-camera recording of his statement was done.
