Indore : Indus World School students visited Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development to learn about the various practical methods that replace day-to-day working with eco-friendly designs on Friday.
The students explored various technologies that have been used in the centre. After their field trip, Dr Janak Palta McGilligan explained the various techniques and technologies that have been used in the centre. “We have 11 models of solar cooker that follow the same principles of heating and pasteurising food using heat energy, the difference is in their designs,” she said. Further, she elaborated that different designs of solar cookers should be used to cook different kinds of food.
During the trip, McGilligan introduced the students to the evolving environmental problems because of the amount of waste generated in the world. “We are not generating any kind of waste, plastic or pollution on this farm because of the optimum use of solar and wind energies,” she added. Further, she urged the students to follow a similar approach in their homes for eco-friendly development.
Students were amazed by the cow-centred organic biodiversity farm. “The idea to bring students here was to show them how using simple techniques it is possible to save the environment,” teacher Monica Jaiswal said. She concluded that the trip was educational and though provoking, as the students tried to explore new ideas for sustainable development.
