Indore: City’s Cyber Cell Police on Sunday busted an inter-state internet gang of banking fraudsters and arrested an active member of the gang for siphoning Rs 19.80 lakhs from the accounts of a textile industry owner.

According to superintendent of police (cyber cell), Jitendra Singh, 27-year-old Noor Mohammad has been arrested from Budaun district in Uttar Pradesh. The accused had acquired a duplicate SIM of the victim Mukul Agrwal by furnishing fake documents, including photocopy of his voter ID to commit the fraud.

“The accused had lodged a SIM card missing complaint in the name of Mukul Agrawal and on the basis of the complaint, acquired a duplicate SIM. He managed to sweep away the money from Agrawal’s bank account by using that duplicate SIM,” Singh said.

The SP added that the incident had come to light when Mukul Agrawal’a accountant asked him to deposit money in his accounts due to insufficient balance.

“Mukul was surprised by seeing the bank statement as Rs 19.80 lakhs were transferred in various accounts through internet banking. He immediately approached us after which we registered a case under IPC sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and under sections 66C and 66D of IT Act against unidentified person,” Singh added.

On the basis of preliminary investigation, a team was sent to Budaun and Muradabad districts of Uttar Pradesh for searching the accused. Chief accused Noor Mohammad was living in a rented accommodation there with the fake identity of Mohammad Jawed.

“The accused has been associated with many other swindlers of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttarakhand. We have been interrogating the accused for getting clues of his other accomplices,” the superintendent of cyber cell said.
