Indore: A day before Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) presents its executive council budget for fiscal 2019-20, EC member Alok Dawar on Thursday sought to know from the university administration when it had planned to setup the proposed medical college at Bada Bangarda.

The government had allotted 50 acres land to the DAVV in 2000 for setting up medical college but not even a single brick has fallen onto that land in past 19 years.

In 2012, the district administration had taken back possession of half of the land and also threatened to take back the remaining portion also if the DAVV would not clear its intention to set up the medical college.

Still no efforts were made to setup the college. The university’s defence is that the project would require about Rs 500 crore, which it does not have.

Customarily, the university makes provision of Rs 1 crore ever year’s budget but that amount remains unutilized.  “Why are fooling ourselves and government. If the university does not wish to setup the college then it should return the land at Bada Bangarda to government so that someone else can be allocated the same or else set a deadline for constructing the college,” Dawar said.

Registrar Ajay Verma said that if the university has any property in its possession it has to make budgetary provisions for its maintenance.

University to present Rs 52.5 cr deficit budget today

DAVV finance officer Dilip Verma is going to present before EC Rs 309 crore, with a deficit Rs 52.5 crore budget on Friday.  In view of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)’s peer team’s visit to its premises, the university administration would seek approval from the EC for Rs 3 crore for painting of buildings on the UTD campus.  Besides, it would also seek amount for setting up four buildings, including one for community college.

Last year, the university has proposed Rs 282 crore budget with a deficit of nearly Rs 30 crore. The university officers stated that the deficit increased as the university as university appointed nearly 120 employees under self-financing scheme and gave seven pay scale to non-teaching regular employees.
