Indore: Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company Ltd (west discom) will install meters in nearly 12 lakh houses, mostly in rural areas, by December end. West discom managing director Vikas Narwal said while about 95 percent houses in urban areas have meters, this number is merely 40 to 50 percent in rural areas. “We have set target to install meters in all the houses by December end,” he stated. Engineers in all 15 districts under west discom have been directed to ensure that 7,000 meters are installed daily.
The west discom wants to install two lakh meters per month so that the target can be achieved within the deadline. Though there is electricity in every household even in rural areas, the meters remain to be installed. The west discom first installed meters in urban areas where the consumption was more than rural areas. But now the consumption has increased in rural areas in last five years. West discom has ordered manufacturers to produce meters in large quantities. Every district will have an additional stock of 5,000 meters.
