Indore: Urea trader with Rs 23 lakh nabbed at airport

Indore: The income tax department has unearthed an unaccounted income of Rs 51 lakh, which was in possession of a urea and manure production company director. The disclosure came to fore after he was caught with Rs 23 lakh at city airport on Saturday.  Income tax officials had received a tip off from Chennai that a man with several lakhs of rupees, which are unaccounted, is travelling in Indore-bound flight. The department sleuths identified the man as Trimbakeshwar Agro Industry director Vikas Gupta.

Gupta reached city via Bhubaneswar. He landed at city airport at 6 pm on Saturday evening where CRPF and income tax officials detained him. During search, Rs 23 lakh were recovered from him. Gupta could not produce documents for the amount, which was then seized. A search was carried out at his company office from where large volume of documents was confiscated.

When questioned, Gupta accepted to possess undisclosed income of Rs 51 lakh.  I-T investigation wing officer Satyapal Meena said search at Gupta’s office is over. “We are going through documents,” he added. Sources said I-T department learnt about associate companies including Radha Enterprise and Safal Feeding.
