Indore: Union Government allows mill owners to import pulses

Indore: The Union government has allowed dal mill owners to import urad, tur and moong (pulses) from abroad, said Suresh Agarwal, president of All-India Dal Mill Association, here on Wednesday.  The association has been demanding from the Centre to allow them to import pulses. In a press release issued on Wednesday, Agrawal said that the association tried to discuss import of dal with the Centre for 2019-20. He said: “We’re demanding licence from the Union govt to import pulses.

Recently, while accepting our demand, the Central government allowed us to import pulses from foreign countries.”  Through a notification, the Directorate of Foreign Trade (DGFT) allowed us (dal millers) to import pulses from April 16 to 30. Appreciating the decision, Agrawal said this step would help in maintaining stability in prices of pulses in the coming days. This will also benefit customers as well as dal millers as the imported pulses will help them run their business which was hit due to shortage of pulses.
