Indore: Doctors of Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital were surprised and taken aback when they found all vital organs of a patient on the other side of his body. Moreover, the patient was also unaware of his condition till he reached MY Hospital with the problem of stomach ache. According to surgeon Dr Arvind Shukla, 36-year-old Babulal, a resident of Banganga, is suffering from ‘Situs Inversus Totalis’ and his all vital organs are on opposite side. His heart is at right side and his liver is at left, Shukla added. The patient has approached us with a problem of pain in stomach about a couple of days ago. He has gone to various private hospitals and has taken treatment but didn’t get relief. During primary investigation, we diagnosed his heart beating at the right side which surprised us,” Dr Shukla said.

He added that after going through sustained screening and medical examinations, doctors found that the patient is suffering from ‘situs inversus totalis’ and his organs are on the opposite side than usual. The patient was suffering from appendicitis due to which he was having pain in stomach. As the patient has rare disorder, the surgery for appendicitis became more complex and challenging. We preferred to go for laparoscopic surgery and performed it well in 25 minutes,” Dr Shukla said. He added that the surgery was performed in the unit of Dr RK Mathur and along with him Dr Varsha Dhakad, Dr Yash, Dr Sourabh, anaesthetists Dr KK Arora and Dr Kabir Kaushal played crucial part. Doctors said that the patient is well now and he has been suggested to visit hospital for regular check-up.
