Indore: Welcoming the new beginning with sun’s transition, Makar Sankranti and Pongal celebrate the harvest of winter season and prepare people for longer sunny days. The harvest festivals celebrated by different communities essentially pay respect to mother earth and recognise the value of food.

To celebrate the occasion, people from different communities prepare traditional dishes using fresh harvest. Living in Indore, the heart of country, people from different communities have accepted and learned recipes from each other.
When it comes to traditional cooking, most communities organised get-together in different parts of the city on Monday to celebrate Makar Sankranti and Pongal. Free Press brings you some fun dishes to try along with areas from where you can buy them.
