Police on Saturday busted a gang involved in stealing valuables from people on the pretext of dropping them home from railway station in the autorickshaw at low fare. Two of the accused are from UP who had hired two local residents for driving autorickshaw. One of the accused was on the run till filing of report.
MIG police station incharge Indresh Tripathi said acting on a tip-off, three persons named Mehboob Abdul Hamid, Sufian Ali Hasan, residents of Husainabad in Bijnor district (UP) and Mohammad Akram of Bambai Bazaar. They were involved in stealing valuables of people in the name of dropping them to their destinations in the autorickshaw. Their accomplice Shabbir Ahmed of Azad Nagar area is on the run.
Accused Mehboob is the mastermind of their gang. He is reported to have told police that he has two wives and 11 children. He was facing financial difficulties when he met his friend named Naim of UP who told him that he can earn more money in less time and efforts. Naim told Mehboob that he had earned huge money by stealing valuables from people on the pretext of dropping them to destination in autorickshaw. After learning how to steal valuables from the people, Mehboob started committing crime in the city with the help of Sufian and autorickshaw owner Shabbir.
Accused told police that they used to reach railway station. Akram used to search for people to drop them home. They used to target elderly persons or couples. Akram used to drive autorickshaw while Mehboob and Sufian used to sit there in rickshaw taking a big bag. They used to tell the passengers that they have already two passengers in the rickshaw so they will charge them low fare. On the way, Mehboob used to steal valuables from the bag of passengers.
