Indore: A pregnant woman had to face a crude ordeal at District Hospital on Thursday morning as the duty doctor was absent and the staff nurse told the woman to sit outside the hospital and to wait for the doctor. “Wait outside, the doctor will come and will refer you to MY Hospital,” the duty nurse told the pregnant woman who was writhing in labour pain. The woman waited for two hours outside the hospital and later moved to MY Hospital on her own.
After the inhuman behaviour of the staff came to light, Civil Surgeon Dr MP Sharma suspended two nurses and served a show cause notice to the duty doctor. Meera Singh, resident of slums in Scheme 71, reached to hospital on Thursday at 8 am.
She had approached the doctors on Wednesday night as well but the duty staff told her to come again next morning. She was grieving in pain and after waiting for long, she had gone to MY Hospital on her own as the duty staff of the hospital didn’t even let her enter the hospital.
At present, the gynaecology ward of the hospital is running in ‘Ren Basera’ building as the hospital will be reconstructed and facilities were shifted from the hospital to other hospitals. However, after the direction of Health Minister Tulsi Silawat, the health department officials assured him to provide proper treatment to the pregnant woman but their claims fell flat on Thursday.
