Indore: It’s going to be a rush hour for lakhs of students seeking admission in government and private colleges across the state, thanks to Lok Sabha elections, which delayed guidelines for centralised online admission counselling. The department of higher education (DHE) declares admission guidelines by May 15 but this year it could not adhere to timeline as its most officials including commissioner (higher education) Raghwendra Singh, were on duty to conduct Lok Sabha elections. Now, poll duty is over and preparations are underway to release guidelines at the earliest,” said additional director (higher education) KN Chaturvedi said.

DHE has signalled at releasing the guidelines in first week of June. This means students are going to get less time for online and verification of documents. We have to complete first round of counseling by June end so that classes can commence from July 1,” said a DHE official. As per academic calendar released on the directives of Governor Anandiben Patel, classes have to commence in institutions of higher learning from July 1. She has directed government and institutions to ensure that academic calendar is followed strictly. In pursuance of directives, the DHE will have to give less time for registrations. Sources said DHE is likely to relax condition of document verification at government colleges. “It may allow verification of documents at any college.”
