Indore: Worried over meeting its annual revenue target, road transport officials will hit roads to act against vehicles running without depositing tax and necessary permits. The regional transport department will take support of officials of other districts to help them in achieving the target.

The department’s worry stems from the fact that its current target is “very huge” and is hard to achieve. It has to recover Rs 551 crore, which is almost Rs 100 crore more than last year’s figure. Regional transport officer Jitendra Raghuvanshi said department has recovered revenue of Rs 417 crore by January this

year and is preparing to collect remaining sum by seizing vehicles running without tax. He said department will take action against vehicle dealers who are not depositing tax on time. “We will also check number of vehicles sold and will compare it with tax deposited by dealers,” he added.

“For achieving last year’s target, the department had directed commercial vehicle owners to deposit lifetime tax. Since most vehicles have deposited tax, this measure will not help in achieving target this time,” sources said. Knowing this, RTO is considering other options. “We will ask officials in nearby districts to launch drive against vehicles running without depositing the tax. We will also direct vehicle owners to check the list of vehicles and tax deposited accordingly,” the RTO added.
