Indore: Peeved by stray dog menace, the residents of Shailmar Township held a meeting with IMC health officer Uttam Yadav, city superintendent of police Vijay Nagar Pankaj Dixit and Lasudia police station incharge Santosh Kumar Dudhi on Sunday evening. Residents complained about presence of stray dogs in the township and demanded that IMC take them away. “There are 1,100 flats in township out of which only three families are so-called dog lovers who feed the stray dogs and fight with us if we asked them to be removed,” said township representative Arshi Amir.

She said dog catchers were called before. “However, these dog lovers complained about us and brought the strays back to township,” Arshi said. Residents raised complaints about how stray dogs are causing trouble. “Our children cannot go out, seniors fear strays and our garden is always dirty because of them,” residents complained. Residents had submitted a written complaint to IMC on June 6 asking to remove stray dogs from the township. The representatives from police and IMC had assured them that they will find a solution. IMC health officer Uttam Yadav said efforts are underway to curb stray dog menace. “But we have limitation. Dog rule 2001 states that one should leave dogs in the exact place after sterilisation. But when we try to leave the dogs back in the area, people stop us and ask us to take them away. This poses difficulty for us,” Yadav said.
