Ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections, the District Election Office has formulated multiple measures to woo more then 12 lakh women voters to cast their vote and not only improve their polling percentage. Despite having the highest literacy rate in the state, in the recently concluded state Assembly Election the overall polling percentage had increased by just 1% from the 2013 Assembly elections to 71.6%.

Notably, the polling percentage of women voters was also low. So the District Election Office has decided to give special emphasis on women voters in the Lok Sabha Elections to motivate them to cast their voters. Neha Meena, CEO of zilla Panchayat and Nodal Officer of Systematic Voters’ education and Electoral Practices (SVEEP) informed that we have formulated the number of measures to woo female voters to exercise their franchise enthusiastically in LS election.

She said our special emphasis is on female voters. In this regard, a only-women’s conference will be held in Abhay Prahal on 2nd April. There is also a possibility of senior journalist from New Delhi, Nidhi Kulpati, being present at the conference. Apart from this, banners, posters and hoardings are also being set up to increase the percentage of voting.

Meena said this time our goal for Lok Sabha elections is to increase the poll percentage of women. In this regard, we want to create a new national record. We have prepared a slogan ‘Matdan ki puri taiyari hai, nar se aage naari hai’. This slogan will be promoted in rural and urban.

On polling day, 2 apolitical women volunteers would be deployed at polling booths. Similarly, every village and every woman in the city will be appointed as female motivator. This will inspire women voters. Entrepreneurs, doctors, businessmen, journalists, government servants, lawyers and home-makers will be motivated to vote. She said the domestic category has the highest number of women voters too and hence this sector needs to get special care.

Instructions have been given to set up a separate line for women in all polling stations of the district. In the Voter Awareness Campaign, women will be motivated to vote. Meena launched two seals related to voter awareness. This seal will be inked on various types of bills of the power department and municipal corporation.
