It is time to personalise and modernise festivals for newlyweds of Rajasthan communities in the city. Adding spark and photographs to accessories used in rituals, young women began a new trend on the concluding day of 16-day fest of Gangaur on Monday. Before festival concludes, women dress up in new, bright coloured clothes. “It is our first Gangaur after marriage, so we celebrated it every day and made a new start of our lives,” homemakers Sakshi Sanidhya Gupta and Pooja Naman said.
“As per folklore, Goddess Gauri returns to her husband’s home (Lord Shiva) on concluding day. A proper guidance is need to solve disputes and re-start a relation,” Sakshi and Pooja said. Unmarried women also worship to seek blessing for a good husband. ‘Gana’ is another word for Lord Shiva, and Gangaur signifies Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati together. “I would want to have a relationship like that of Gangaur because they make a perfect couple,” Palak said.
Sakshi and Rishika also celebrated fest and felt it was a great way to be positive. “We can hope for happiness and true relations when we look at Gangaur,” they said. Homemaker Babita Gupta who has been celebrating Gangaur festival in city for several years said, “Festivities are equally grand in the city now as they are in Rajasthan.” On the final day, a procession was taken out. Gangaur idols were immersed in water tank, wells. This marked end of festival.
