Indore: Fearing drop in its grade due to dearth of teachers, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), which was awarded Grade A accreditation five years ago, on Friday heaved a sigh of relief as Raj Bhawan has constituted selection committees for appointment of contractual teachers against regular posts lying vacant at the university teaching departments.
“As of now, selection committees have been constituted for appointment of contractual teachers at Educational Multi-Media Research Centre and School of Biotechnology. Selection committees for the rest of departments will be formed shortly,” said vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. He said interviews for EMRC would be conducted on February 27 and School of Biotechnology on February 28.
The university had invited applications for more than 190 contractual teachers on October 7 but the appointments could not be done due to delay in formation of selection committees. Lately, the university applied for fourth cycle of accreditation granted by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university is expecting NAAC’s inspection for assessment of its standards in May or June.
Before that, it would have to send a self-study report probably by March end. The university wants to appoint contractual faculties before March end. DAVV has been evading appointments of teaching staff for one decade. Process to fill vacancies was initiated in 2009. It was deferred after a complaint regarding irregularities was lodged with the Raj Bhawan.
In 2013, ahead of NAAC peer team’s visit to the varsity, vacant posts were advertised and applications invited. After NAAC awarded Grade A accreditation to DAVV, the appointment process was put into a cold storage on the pretext of financial problems. In 2016, the DAVV again geared up to fill the vacancies.
However, eight self-financing departments/ institutes requested varsity authorities not to appoint regular teachers on their campuses citing financial constraints. The request sounded death knell for the appointment process.
