Indore: Panchayat election; over 68% voter turnout in district

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In all, 68.68 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in the panchayat elections in the district that was held in a free, fair and transparent manner on Saturday.

The names of winning panch, sarpanch and janpad members will be declared on July 14 and the names of winning members of zilla panchayat will be declared on July 15.

According to district election office, polling was completed peacefully in all the four janpad panchayats in the district - Depalpur, Indore, Sanwer and Mhow. All sections of society voted with great enthusiasm.

Voters queued up since morning to cast their vote and there was tight security at all the polling booths. There were several facilities for the voters to make it easy for them to cast their votes.

According to the instructions of the State Election Commission, in the district, 22 polling station buildings, which had 37 polling booths, were specially decorated as they were declared Ideal polling booth.

Out of 6,72,310 voters of the district, 4,61,717 voters cast their votes. In Indore janpad panchayat area maximum 77.48% of voters exercised their franchise. Similarly, 64.59% voting was recorded in Sanwer, 72.21% in Depalpur and 61.52% in the Mhow janpad panchayat area. There were 1217 polling stations in the district.

After polling in the district, the counting of votes started at 3 pm. The counting of votes was going on till late evening. After the counting of votes is completed, tabulation will be done on the scheduled dates. According to the schedule, tabulation of counting of votes of panch, sarpanch and janpad panchayat members and declaration of election results will be done on July 14. Block-level tabulation of votes for the post of zilla panchayat members will also be done on July 14 at the district headquarters and results would be declared on July 15 at 10.30 am.
