Indore: Amid tension, a pall of gloom descended in Palia on Monday when funeral procession of BJP activist Nemichand Tanwar, who was shot dead by a Congress activist on Sunday, was taken out in the village located 20 kilometres from the city. The body reached Palia village at 2.30 pm. Last rights were performed by his son. Large numbers of people including residents of nearby villages attended the funeral and seemed angry about the incident. They criticised politicians about the murder.
Large numbers of policemen were deployed in the village since last night as the situation became tense. The district administration feared clash between Congress and BJP leaders and communal violence between Sen and Brahmin community. Police security was high around Tanwar’s residence as tension gripped the village. Senior police officials including CSP and ASP, SDOP and SDM were present in the village to deal with any untoward incident. BJP leader and former MLA Rajesh Sonkar who attended the funeral criticised Congress party and leaders for the incident. Anti-Congress slogans raised villagers raised anti-Congress slogans during funeral procession. People raised slogans against health minister Tulsi Silawat and chief minister Kamal Nath during the procession. Some of the angry villagers demanded ban on Silawat’s entry in the village.
