Indore: If you have decided to visit your doctor, then postpone it as doctors will remain on strike on Monday. Over 2,100 doctors of Indian Medical Association Indore Chapter will strike the work for whole day. The strike is expected to cripple city’s medical services.

All the clinics, diagnostic centres and OPDs in private hospitals across the city will remain closed for a day as a part of nation-wide call given by Indian Medical Association (IMA) to oppose violence unleashed against doctors in West Bengal.

Worse, the doctors of government hospitals will also support IMA strike and avoid working in OPDs for a day. However, IMA has announced that emergency services will not be hampered. Besides, doctors will attend patients in critical condition.

“As part of our nation-wide strike, we will strike work on Monday for 24 hours,” zonal chairman of IMA-Indore Dr Sanjay Londhe said. He said they are protesting against increasing incidents of attacks on doctors.

“We are demanding Medical Protection Act for past several years but government has given us assurance. We didn’t choose the profession to put our lives in danger,” Dr Londhe said.

He said all doctors who are members of IMA will stage protest at entrance gate of MY Hospital in black clothes.

MYH services to be affected

Services in MY Hospital will also be hit by strike of doctors as Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers’ Association and Junior Doctors’ Association have lent support to strike called by IMA.

Govt docs support strike

The government hospitals will also remain affected as Indore branch of Madhya Pradesh Medical Officers’ Association (MPMOA) has also supported strike and asked government doctors to avoid working in OPDs.

“We have also asked other doctors to participate in IMA’s protest. We will ensure smooth run of emergency services and post mortem unit but will not work in OPDs,” president of MPMOA-Indore Dr Hemant Dwivedi said.

CMHO ordered to maintain health services

Amid doctors’ announcement to strike work on Monday, chief medical and health officer Dr Pravin Jadia has ordered all the health officers to ensure smooth working in government hospitals including in OPDs.

He also asked doctors to be prepared for emergency and ensure availability of doctors between 9 am to 6 pm.
