Indore: After online common entrance test (CET) fiasco, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) administration is exploring different options for admissions, including the option of granting admissions on the basis of merit in qualifying exams, but the fact remains that online entrance exam is the only option with the university.

“The admission regulation is clear and loud that CET is to be held in online mode only. So considering other options is useless,” said a senior professor who wished anonymity.

The DAVV has conducted CET in online mode for admissions in nearly 65 courses on June 23 but it was marred by technical glitches.

While nearly 16,000 had successfully taken the CET, around 1,100 were returned as technical glitches did not allow them to download question papers.

The aggrieved students were told that their exam would be conducted within a week but the following day (June 24) the State government invoked Section 52 of MP University Act 1973 which led to ouster of vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. Since new VC has not been appointed leading to uncertainty at DAVV that brought the admission process to a standstill.

In absence of VC (new VC has not been appointed as yet), decision on admission process could not be taken even as student leaders demanded for cancelation of entire exams and conduct the same in offline mode.

Some suggested granting admission on the basis of merit in qualifying exams.

Besides the above-mentioned options, the university is also considering the option of declaration of results of students who had already taken online exam and holding offline exam for those who missed it following glitches.

But the fact is that all these options are not available in case of CET. The admission regulation passed by executive council of DAVV states that CET is to be conducted in online mode. For non-CET courses, the exam mode can be either offline or online.

Since 1,100 students who missed the exam were seeking admissions in 20 courses under CET, there format of exam can’t be offline. Secondly, if the online CET held June 23 is cancelled than also students taken the test can’t be subjected to offline exam or be granted admissions on merit basis of qualifying exam.
