Indore: Now, ropeway to reduce traffic mess!

Indore: While the state government has set February 2023 as deadline for rolling out Metro train in the city, Lok Sabha Speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan on Sunday held a meeting with public representatives stating ropeway as a public transport could also be an option to reduce vehicular load on city.

Mahajan said that Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari told her had ropeway and cable cars can be perfect alternative means of public transport in a city like Indore.

Mahajan was informed by Gadkari that a company WABCOS installs ropeways which it is a PSU and comes under his ministry.

He sent a team of the WABCOS to the city for giving a presentation before Mahajan who called Mayor Malini Gaud, MLAs, MiC members and others to see the presentation.

Senior officer of WABCOS, Pradeep Kumar gave presentation stating that ropeways till date were used to be a means of transport in hilly areas but it is now being opted by many cities across the globe.

Kumar stated that lesser areas is required for installation of towers for ropeway and is cheaper to other means of transports like mono rail and metro train.

Merely 10% to the cost of metro train
Kumar told the public representatives that this means of transport will not only take lesser space than required for metro train but it will also be cost merely 10 percent to the total cost of metro train project. The intake capacity of each ropeway will be 18. The number of ropeways could be increased as per the requirements, Kumar said. He also stated that since ropeway runs power cables it causes not air-pollution. The public representatives were also told that safest means of transport after aircraft.

Can be installed in 4 to 5 years
The public representatives were informed that the ropeway project can be installed in four to five years. It was also stated that this project recovers its cost in same period of time if run effectively. Kumar stated that as per his assessment the ropeways are installed in the city in required numbers then they can ferry 12000 people from one place to another in one hour of time.
