Indore: While residents across the state are complaining of unscheduled power cuts, electricity minister Priyavrat Singh here on Monday claimed that it’s a false propaganda spread by BJP.

“There are no unscheduled power cuts (in the state),” he told reporters. He stated that power outage does take place due to faults, falling of electricity poles and tripping but they do not account for unscheduled power cuts.

He stated that the BJP is clubbing disruption in supply due to the technical reasons with unscheduled power cuts.

“We are power surplus state so the question regarding power cuts does not arise. However, the technical faults and tripping do cause power outage, which we are now trying to check,” he said.

The minister claimed that the power outage due to technical faults is less compared to last year (when BJP was in power).

He stated that state government will check BJP’s false propaganda by launching a WhatsApp group, which will be shared with mediapersons, businessmen and others to convey the exact reason for power cuts.

He also stated that they are getting examined the quality of transforms, insulators and cables purchased during BJP tenure as prima facie it appears to be inferior quality.

“No need to purchase invertors”

Fire in grid on May 29 and rough weather on June 2 caused power outage in the city, which irritated consumers. “We are trying to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future,” he said.

To a query, he stated that people of Indore need not have to purchase invertors as they would get uninterrupted power supply for the next five years. He stated that the assistant engineers have been directed to work from 8 am to 12 in night to address power woes.

The minister stated that currently they supply power to residential feeders 24 x 7 and 10 hours to agriculture feeders.

“Trying to integrate call centres”

The minister stated that government is trying to link call centres of all three discoms in the state so that if call traffic is heavy on one call centre, the calls in line could be forwarded to other call centres.

This will be crucial in cases like that took place in Indore on May 29 when people spent night calling on 1912 number for assistance but due to congestion, many calls went unattended.
