Indore: No power bills without meter reading, discom to take help of QR code

Indore: Taking cognisance of the increasing complaints of arbitrary and average electricity bills, Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company has started taking steps for releasing bills based on actual meter reading.

Instructions have been given to the company responsible for meter reading that without photo reading of electricity meter, bills can’t be prepared. Meter reading will have to be uploaded from the QR code on the Urjas app of the electricity company.

West Discom managing director Amit Tomar on Tuesday gave these instructions to the officers of all 15 districts of Indore-Ujjain.

The company's IT arm has made arrangements for meter reading through QR codes. At present, meter reading is done in 10 lakh connections through QR code technique. The QR code sticker will also be put on the remaining meters. This will reduce consumer complaints regarding bills and readings.

The MD directed that photographs of the meters on the bills should be clear. “The engineers of each zone should check the clarity of the photo in the meter reading record of area concerned,” he said.

Tomar said that bill based on correct meter readings will increase the consumer’s satisfaction.

Bill amount recovery from 25 lakh consumers in June

Tomar has also given instructions to increase the revenue of the power company. In June, the company has been directed to recover the bill amount from at least 25 lakh electricity consumers in both Indore and Ujjain divisions. The MD said that during the last two years of Covid-19 crisis, lakhs of consumers did not pay the bill. “Now contact them, the bill amount recovery,” he said.
