In a major decision, the state government has done away with entrance tests for admission in teacher education courses. This year, there won’t be any entrance tests for the enrolment in courses including BEd, MEd, BPEd and MPEd etc.  The Department of Higher Education released schedule for centralised online admission counselling for admission in courses regulated by National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE).

As per the schedule, vacancies in teacher education colleges will be released between April 1 and 3. The online registration for counselling would begin from April 4. As per the DHE, the admission would be granted in BEd, MPEd and other courses in three phases of counselling.

“First counselling would be held from April 4 to May 1, second from May 2 to 27 and third from May 28 to June 21,” said Indore Mahavidyalaya director Girdhar Nagar. The registration for first counselling for courses will be held from April 4 to 12 and verification of documents from April 4 to 15.

The common merit lists of students would be issued on April 18 and allotments on the basis of merit would be made in college on April 25. The students whose names will figure in the first merit list would have to pay fee to allocated colleges by April 30 for confirmation of the admission. The seat remained vacant after first counselling will be uploaded on the portal on May 1 for second round.

Fresh registrations in every round
AISECT College director Awadhesh Dave stated that there would be fresh registration in every round of counselling. “The students who will not be able to register for first counselling and can do registration in the second or third counselling, subject to availability of seats,” he said.

Shri Yashwant Singh BEd college director Ravi Bhadoriya, however, suggested students to register in the first counselling as well because there may be no seat left in reputed colleges for the following rounds.  New Era College director Abhay Pandey also echoed the same views. Welcoming the government’s move to scrap entrance test, Pandey stated that there was not requirement for entrance tests in BEd and MPEd courses.

Over 60 BEd colleges under DAVV
There are about 60 BEd colleges under the wings of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. These colleges have around 6300 seats. Nearly 80 seats of DAVV colleges get filled every year but the colleges in other cities witness poor admission. Matu Shree Education College director Rambabu Sharma said that it’s expected that this year seats in other cities colleges will also be filled as entrance test has been done away with.
