Indore: There was no relief from cold winds as the night temperature on Monday dropped to 5.6 degrees Celsius, which was lowest in last seven years. The day temperature remained 8 degrees below normal for fifth consecutive day on Tuesday. The night temperature on Monday was recorded at 5.6 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal. The day temperature at 20.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday was eight degrees below normal on Tuesday.

Regional meteorological department said weather would remain same for next couple of days though day and night temperature may increase slightly. “The sky would remain clear and the temperature would remain same,” a department official said. Morning and evening humidity was 54 percent and 19 percent respectively. Meanwhile, city roads, which always remain full of vehicles, wore a barren look early in the morning and in late evening as cold winds blew.

‘Global climate change is reason behind extended winters’

According to School of Energy and Environmental Studies head Professor SP Singh, extended winter is the result of global climate change. Not only is our country but every country is facing extreme weather conditions. He said heavy snowfall in northern area and wind blowing from northern part of the country is the reason for current cold conditions. The temperature would increase with the change in wind pattern.

Sky is generally clear with light surface winds blowing from northerly or north-easterly direction. The normal minimum temperature is 10°C. Days are warmer but comfortable. Westerly or north-westerly winds blow in afternoon. The monthly total rainfall is 6.5 mm. However, there have been occasions when substantial rainfall was recorded.
