The latest update of WatsApp, now prevents others from adding users to groups without their permission. Now group invitation feature is introduced. It was first spotted on beta and now it’s available for all users. This update of WhatsApp will be available globally within a few weeks. In this feature users can choose either ‘Nobody’, ‘My Contacts’, or ‘Everyone’.

‘My Contacts’ will allow only the user’s contacts to add them on WhatsApp groups, and ‘Everyone’ will let even unsaved contacts to add user to any group. Choosing ‘Nobody’ will initiate a private add request to join the group. An invitation to join the group will be sent to the users through a private chat. WhatsApp gives users three days to accept the request, after which the request will expire. Free Press talked to WhatsApp users to know their reactions on this update, Excerpts.

Priya Parwani
(Engineer, Yash Technology)
This new feature of WhatsApp that takes permission from an individual whether he wants to be part of a particular group, is appreciable. It is a boon for user as its privacy will not be hindered by unnecessary groups. This feature will largely affect commercial sector because they will not be able to add a large number of users without their consent.

Simar Singh
(Engineer, MPHASIS)
It’s an important feature. Many a time people at work place add you in a group of which you don’t wish to be a part. And it becomes compulsory to stay in the group because leaving a group is a harsh gesture. It is just a privacy feature. It’s good for the girls. It’s not required particularly. But it will be going to increase storage space of devices. Many devices with low memory might hit.

Aakash Chauhan
(BCA)
It will strengthen user’s privacy. Some people use WhatsApp only for personal purpose and they don’t like to be part of any group. For these people, this feature is a blessing. No one will now be able to add your number for political promotion. Now it’s only up to user to maintain his/her privacy.

Nikhil Vipat (BSc)
It will provide a self-space to the user. It’s a good update. It is useful for famous people whom everyone wants to keep in his group.

Akshay Jajpuriya
(Engineering Student)
On social media many unknown people add us in the groups which are for their business promotion. Sometimes these groups and their content creates mental agony. It is our fundamental right to have privacy. Women safety and Cybercrimes are a matter of concern.

Jahanvi Sharma
(B.Sc. Student)
I think it’s a secure feature. Updating WhatsApp with this feature will surely keep us out of the groups which are spam and will probably make sure that you are in the groups of your known ones. We can call this update as among the best required updates of WhatsApp. Previously I used to block the users who try to add me in the useless groups but now I can reject their request.

Nidhi Sahu
(Network Planning,
Vodafone Idea Limited)
This feature will enhance security of my device. A lot of time I have to get connected to people on WhatsApp and they add me in useless groups. Now I will definitely keep my privacy.
