Indore: Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education) Radheshyam Julania believes that dental colleges in the state were concerned with “quantity” and not the “quality” dentists. Talking to media on the sidelines of 72nd Indian Dental Conference on Saturday, Julania said, “Such dental colleges which were only generating quantity of dentists and not bothering about quality dentists should be shut. Parents should stop sending their children to such colleges.”
He said that some of the private colleges were wasting money and time of parents and children. Talking about demand of bridge course for BDS students, Julania said that bridge course should be started but it is the matter of decision by the Centre. Meanwhile, restructure facial surgery expert of Bengluru Dr Vikarm Shetty said, “The trend of restructure facial surgery and cosmetic dentistry has increased after 2008 as it was popular among the rich only. Now, even the middle class and lower middle class people are also opting for such surgeries to get a beautiful look.”
He raised concern over the demand of getting fair complexion and said that they have to counsel people that having fair complexion doesn’t mean that someone is beautiful. “Most beautiful women in the world were not only so because of their fair complexion. Attraction towards fair complexion had increased after the invasion of Britishers,” Dr Shetty said.
Various companies and start-ups too participated in the exhibitions organised during the conference and invisible ortho analyser, mobile x-ray machine of 1.5 kg weight and 3D X Ray machines were the main attraction of the conference. Organising chairman Dr Deshraj Jain said the conference will not be beneficial for the city but for the state too. More than 20 international faculty members addressed the conference on Saturday and shared their knowledge with the students and dentists.
